Switzerland May Impose Energy Rationing – Jail, Fines for Violations

EU demands mandatory rationing

Europe may be about to go full totalitarian, with their energy crisis looming on the horizon. Switzerland has a proposal to impose energy rationing, and the Draconian laws that go with it are…well…scary.  The 26 Swiss states, or cantons, have until September 22 to voice objections or come up with a different plan for consideration. (Breitbart). They are not members of the EU, but broke with their stated neutrality to vote for the sanctions against Russia.

Meanwhile European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen, stated that the energy rationing is necessary to “flatten the curve.” (Have you heard THAT speech before?)

Energy Rationing in Germany began September 1

The rationing program calls for thermostats to be set at 66 degrees and water heaters are capped at 140 degrees. Saunas and swimming pools must remain cold. No heating hallways with the exception of hospitals. Laws requiring landlords to keep their tenants at a comfortable temperature are conveniently suspended for six months. Violators will be either fined or sent to prison for 3 years or both.  Part of this plan is because of Russia cutting off the natural gas and part of it is because of “climate change.” They are attempting to get people to use less electricity during “peak” times.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Von Der Leyen stated that price caps may be instituted for energy sources because there aren’t enough nuclear reactors to meet the need. (Note: several European countries are rethinking that ban).

Some Parliamentary Ministers in Germany are worried about gas riots this winter. And they may have a point. Putin responded to Von Der Leyen’s speech by saying that her price caps were “stupid” and if they push them forward, “We will not supply gas, oil, coal, heating oil — we will not supply anything.” (timcast.com)

How will they accomplish enforcement of these energy rationing laws? Switzerland’s Minister of Economic Affairs Guy Parmelin  emphatically stated, “We are not a police state…The police will not check everyone – but there can be selective checks. The draft regulations are primarily based on the fact that the vast majority of the population adheres to laws.”

Obviously sending police officers door to door to monitor thermostats would be extremely difficult, even ‘selectively.’ Especially if they do end up with gas riots.

Europe is in real trouble. How long before it comes to the United States?
