Strzok Out: FBI fires ‘bias poster child’ agent

The FBI has fired Peter Strzok, the agent involved in high-profile investigations involving alleged Russian election meddling and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s emails until his own anti-Trump texts made him “the poster child for anti-Trump bias,” according to Fox News.

Strzok has not made a statement, but his attorney, Aitan Goelman, was quoted by the Washington Post Monday asserting, “This isn’t the normal process in any way more than name.” Goelman reportedly told the newspaper that the firing came Friday afternoon by order of FBI Deputy Director David L. Bowdich, and that it was a “departure from standard practice,” the newspaper said.

Strzok not only became the “poster child” for bias against President Donald Trump, he was something of a whipping boy during a Congressional hearing earlier this summer. He had been escorted out of the FBI building about two months ago, and relieved of work responsibilities, the Washington Post story recalled. Strzok had been with the agency more than two decades.

As a sidebar, Fox News has re-published an explanation of the FBI texting scandal and the main players involved, Strzok and Lisa Page, with whom he was having an affair. It originally appeared on July 12. They were both on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team investigating alleged Russian influence on the 2016 election that saw Clinton lose in a historic upset to Trump in November of that year despite widespread pundit predictions that the election was hers.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Attorney Goelman is quoted by Fox News stating, “This decision should be deeply troubling to all Americans.”

Or maybe not; a lot of people had been wondering why it took so long for the FBI to boot Strzok, based on the content of his text exchanges with Page, who has already left the agency.

USA Today noted that Strzok is “the third high-profile FBI official to be fired from the bureau since President Donald Trump took office. Last year, Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey. And earlier this year, FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions just days before he was set to retire and his benefits would have set in.”

Trump supporters appear to be greeting the news rather than lamenting it.
