Mississippi — An airplane allegedly stolen from the Tupelo airport by an employee of a Fixed Based Operator has landed safely and the person piloting it arrested. The man was flying a fixed wing multi-engine 1987 Beech C90A called 911, and threatened to crash into a Tupelo Walmart at around 5 a.m. on Saturday. Authorities evacuated the Walmart and adjacent businesses. But the plane continued on, flying erratically until it landed in a field near Ashland, MS.
The guy from Tupelo is flying over my hometown Ripley MS right now. Don’t know who the guy is that twitter is posting but the actual guy flying is believed to be named Cory Patterson. #Tupelo pic.twitter.com/9iZe7Vk6W8

For all you numnuts saying Cory Patterson is some white fascist, he IS NOT political.
He’s just a young man who’s messed up who really doesn’t want to hurt anyone.
I pray he makes the right choice safely lands in Tupelo somewhere.#Mississippi #Tupelo pic.twitter.com/RlIgxXATrl

The man who allegedly stole the plane in Tupelo and who is now flying in North Tupelo posted a “goodbye” message to Facebook 15 minutes ago saying he “Never actually wanted to hurt anyone.”
This is so awful.

No he wasn’t an Islamic terrorist. No, he wasn’t a “white supremacist.” The stories flew on Twitter, none of which were the actual truth. He reportedly circled over Tupelo and surrounding areas for around just shy of 5 hours on Saturday. Cory Patterson has a student pilot certificate, and was employed by a Fixed Based Operator who leased space at the Tupelo airport. The certification does not allow him to fly with passengers, according to the FAA. Citizens were asked to avoid the area until an All Clear was issued.
Patterson landed the plane safely in the field, and was arrested by Mississippi State police. The motive is unknown at the time, but those who know him say he is not a terrorist, just a man who felt like giving up. Unfortunately, he scared a lot of people in that process.
“He could have ended it all today, freeing himself from all the hurtful and ugly things that are going to be said about him but instead, he chose life and a chance at forgiveness. You too have a decision to make, you can either pray for him or you can be the reason that ppl feel they have no hope.” Chelsea Fleming Jolly
