Send VA Doctors to the Potential Migrant Surge? GOP Letter Demands Answers

Does the Biden Administration plan to move VA doctors to the southern border instead of leaving them to care for veterans? The White House’s “whole of government ” approach to the potential migrant surge after removing Title 42 prompted over 50 Republicans to write a letter to DHS Secretary Alexander Mayorkas. The letter demanded copies of correspondence between the DHS and VA by April 27. The White House Fact sheet did not mention the VA.

Acquiring and deploying resources to address increased volumes; 2) Delivering a more efficient and fair immigration process; 3) Processing and removing those who do not have valid claims; and 4) Working with other countries in the Western Hemisphere to manage migration and address root causes.

…DHS has moved officers, agents, and DHS Volunteer Force personnel to rapidly decompress points along the border and more efficiently process migrants.

White House Fact Sheet on the “Whole of Government” response to the possible migrant surge

The VA is not part of the DHS, so any such move would be unprecedented. The administration, for its part, told reporters that moving VA doctors to the border would “probably” be a part of a DHS volunteer effort for healthcare to migrants if it were to occur, but the idea had not been discussed. The “source” did not rule it out, either.

“On March 29, 2022, a CBP report indicated a surge of border crossings was imminent due to the rescinding of this authority. The report presents a dire situation that may result in as many as 18,000 possible encounters per day. If this number proves accurate, this could result in over 540,000 encounters in a single month. Currently, CBP does not have the facilities or manpower to handle the anticipated massive surge. Moving VA medical staff away from our veteran’s healthcare needs to examine illegal immigrants is a recipe for disaster. Wait times for a veteran to see their doctor can average 22 days and reach as high as 42 days. This is unacceptable mismanagement of federal government resources by the Biden administration.”

Letter from House Republicans to DHS Secretary Mayorkas

Rep Jody Hice (R-GA) led the effort to send the letter after the CBP floated the idea of sending VA doctors to the border to assist with the influx of illegal migrants.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“Biden’s failed open border policies are no excuse to funnel resources away from our veterans. Our men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our liberties and our country’s sovereignty deserve the best resources for their health care needs. The Biden Administration must provide the American people answers. Even the thought of abandoning our veterans’ care for the needs of illegal aliens is disgraceful.”

Rep Jody Hice (R-GA)

The Biden Administration claims that they will be using Title 8 for immigration after May 23. Title 8 is the US immigration policy current as of 2015. So many parts of it have been repealed or rescinded that it’s difficult to track what’s left in it.
