Santa Fe Shooter – Plenty of “Signs” Missed
Texas authorities claim there were no “signs” that would have flagged Santa Fe shooter Dimitrios Pagourtzis. A kid on the honor roll, news media said that no one saw anything concerning. But there were many “signs” that were missed. One student who was murdered that fateful day knew the signs and reportedly even told her parents ahead of time.
Shana Fisher, 16, was being harassed by Dimitrios Pagourtzis. He “pestered” her for about four months for a date before she finally told him to knock it off. She was afraid of him. In an interview with the Daily Mail, her father revealed the possible motive:
“He had told her himself he was going to kill her. He was walking around planning this in his head for two weeks….Shana said that if he came into the school with a gun and killed her she would haunt him for the rest of his life. She was really scared.” Timothy Thomas, Shana’s father.
Standing up to a person that has mental illness can be deadly. Pagourtzis responded to the rejection by shooting Shana at point blank range directly in the face. The sad part is that Shana was a “quiet” person and it took a lot for her to stand up to the person who was bothering her.
Her face was so unrecognizable, the Sheriff’s office told her mother, Sadie Fisher, not to bother coming to identify her.
Timothy Thomas continued:
“What I have a problem with is that none of these teachers or counselors saw this coming. If they are smart enough to teach our kids, they should be smart enough to see when something is badly wrong with someone. And how can they see a boy in a heavy trench coat walking into a hallway in 100F heat and not think something’s up with that?”
As we previously reported, his trenchcoat, his social media posts, and especially the animal torture are ALL signs of a kid in serious need of intervention. Now we learn that his behavior with regard to a student was serious, and provided a possible motive, however mentally off, for the killings.
Parents and schools, as well as authorities often tend to attribute things to “adolescent” behavior or they have no training in danger signals. Mr. Thomas is right that the teachers should be more aware, but so should parents.
Shana’s grandfather reportedly watched over her as a sort of protector and kept in close contact with her. But he couldn’t be with her 24/7, especially while she was at school. The shooting left 10 families devastated over the loss of loved ones, and 10 others devastated from loved ones being injured.
Pagourtzis’ parents have reportedly moved from their home and haven’t been seen there since.
We no longer live in a society of innocence. Mental illness and abnormal behavior are rampant in a society that glorifies violence and strips the joy from childhood. High school is no longer simply about proms, sports, and band practice. Now it’s about survival.
