Sanders Praises Fidel Castro — Conservatives and a Democrat Respond

On 60 Minutes Sunday night, Senator Bernie Sanders praised Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro. The responses were immediate.

“We’re very opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba but you know, it’s unfair to simply say everything is bad. You know?” When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing? Even though Fidel Castro did it?” Sanders

Senator Ted Cruz picked up on the ridiculousness of the idea and tweeted, “It really makes a difference when those you murder at the firing squad can read & write.”

It wasn’t the first time Bernie Sanders has praised the Communist dictator whose regime murdered thousands.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“In 1961, [America] invaded Cuba, and everybody was totally convinced that Castro was the worst guy in the world,” said Sanders.

All the Cuban people were going to rise up in rebellion against Fidel Castro. They forgot that he educated their kids, gave their kids health care, totally transformed society,” he said.

You know, not to say Fidel Castro and Cuba are perfect – they are certainly not – but just because Ronald Reagan dislikes these people does not mean to say the people in these nations feel the same,” continued Sanders.” CNS News

Want to know why they didn’t “raise up in rebellion?” Because Castro disarmed the people of Cuba, leaving them defenseless against his “revolutionary” thugs. Thousands were murdered, yes by Castro and his buddy Che Guevara, current hero to our ignorant youth.

Democrat Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL) took exception to Sanders comments. Even though she came from Ecuador, she represents many Cuban-Americans in Florida.

“As the first South American immigrant member of Congress who proudly represents thousands of Cuban Americans, I find Senator Bernie Sanders’ comments on Castro’s Cuba absolutely unacceptable.

The Castro regime murdered and jailed dissidents, and caused unspeakable harm to too many South Florida families. To this day, it remains an authoritarian regime that oppresses its people, subverts the free press, and stifles a free society.” Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell

Others responded to the comment:

“In true Totalitarian form, dictator Fidel Castro died with a net worth of $900+ millio[n] while the average Cuban family has an income of $50 per month. In Cuba it is illegal to eat or serve beef or lobster without gov permission. Private citizens cannot have internet access.” @HypatiaEmend

James Woods referred to Sanders as a “commie curmudgeon.”

Rep Lee Zeldin commented,

“This isn’t Cuba, Venezuela or the USSR. 2020 may be the year Bernie Sanders and the Democratic Socialists take over the Democratic Party, but it better not be the year they take over the United States of America.”

An important statement, Mr. Zeldin. Hope the voters pay attention.
