Sanctuary Cities: The Cost to the American Taxpayers
No sanctuary for those killed by illegals…
Much like a child holding his breath during a temper tantrum, a small number of Democrat governed cities still stinging from Donald Trump’s presidential victory are proudly proclaiming their status as sanctuary cities for millions of illegal aliens.
As noted by Fox News, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York and Philadelphia, have “re-affirmed their sanctuary policies following Tuesday’s election.”
Undoubtedly, those who violated American immigration law draw solace from Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel’s reassurance that the City of Broad Shoulders “always will be a sanctuary city.”
The Party Boss also claimed to those here illegally, presumably with a straight face, “you are safe in Chicago, you are secure in Chicago and you are supported in Chicago.” Emanuel must have missed that as of November 1, his city has experienced “605 murders, 3,003 shootings and 3,633 shooting victims so far this year.”
But with President-Elect Trump vowing to cut off federal tax dollars to the so-called sanctuary cities, the aforementioned cities are bound to feel quite the financial pinch. Especially when the federal dollars dry up.
The Boston Globe is reporting today that the Massachusetts cities of Somerville, Chelsea, and Boston plan on remaining “sanctuary cities,” regardless of The Donald’s vow. But as the old saying goes, talk is cheap.
As reported, “Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone of Somerville said the city risks losing $6 million in federal funding because officials have vowed to welcome all immigrants, regardless of their legal status.”
Obviously trying vinegar instead of sugar, the career politician angrily stated, “We are not going to stand voiceless and in silence and let a Gestapo-like atmosphere be cultivated in this nation and come to our communities and break families apart. That will not be tolerated.”
But Curtatone might not want to rely on neighboring Boston to make up for the loss of revenue from the feds. The capital city of the Bay State is on the cusp of finding themselves a quarter of a billion taxpayer federal dollars minus from their coffers just as soon as Trump is inaugurated.
Yet the $250,000 annually sent to Bean Town is veritable chump change when compared to what the comrades residing in the San Francisco SSR stand to lose – a whopping $1 billion.
What could be qualified as poetic justice, the hometown of both Trump and confidant Rudy Giuliani stands to lose the most, a Trumpesque $6 billion.
And what could be the portent of things to come, Seattle mayor Ed Murray has recently informed the city’s people that due to his decision for the Emerald City remaining a sanctuary city, a brand spanking new tax very well could be in the near future.
