Running on fumes: Kerry hopes Ukraine doesn’t distract from climate crusade

Former Senator John Kerry, now Joe Biden’s “climate czar,” was quick out of the gate Thursday, decrying Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but it almost seemed as though he was trying to make himself relevant to current headlines.

After expressing his “concern about Ukraine,” Kerry—the one-time presidential candidate—declared, “I thought we lived in a world that had said no to that kind of activity. And I hope diplomacy will win.”

And then he said this, according to Fox News, “But massive emissions consequences to the war – but equally importantly, you’re going to lose people’s focus, you’re going to lose certainly big country attention because they will be diverted and I think it could have a damaging impact. So, you know, I think hopefully President Putin would realize that in the northern part of his country, they used to live on 66% of the nation that was over frozen land.”

There is no indication, however slight, that Putin cares even a little bit about “massive emissions” or people living in the far north of Russia. But there definitely was reaction from Kerry’s critics, who gave him no quarter at all.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Around the western world, Fox News is reporting anti-Russian demonstrations in the U.S. and Europe. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced “he would impose a full asset freeze on all major Russian banks to cut them off from the U.K. financial system.”

There is also a report that the Russian coat-of-arms outside the country’s embassy in Dublin had been spray-painted red.

According to one member of the British Parliament, Marcus Fysh, “These idiots are the problem.”

Another man—Matt Whitlock—tweeted, “Just an incredible statement — People are getting killed and the Biden administration’s climate envoy — who regularly flies to climate events in a private jet — is concerned first about the impact on the climate fight. Feels like a cartoon character.”

Fox News also published a tweet from Jake Bequette, former defensive end for the New England Patriots, who scathingly observed, “Democrats are deranged, spoiled children and after 2022 should not be near any position of power for the foreseeable future.”

So far, it does not appear Kerry has reacted to any of the criticisms.
