Protesters break windows, start fires in Oakland in response to Trump victory

That didn’t take long… On Wednesday, KTVU reported that protesters took to the streets hours after Republican Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election, starting fires and breaking windows.
According to KTVU:
Up to 100 people were said to have gathered in downtown Oakland to protest the results. Many spectators had gathered on Telegraph Avenue and continue to march. Â BART has shut down the 12th street station in downtown Oakland as a result.

NBC Bay Area added:
Hundreds of students took to the streets of Berkeley, Oakland and San Jose minutes after Donald Trump was declared the 45th president of the United States, blocking freeways, lighting flares and chanting, “Not our president” and “F— Trump.”
Early Wednesday morning, protesters also burned Trump in effigy, smashed windows of the Oakland Tribune newsroom, and set tires and trash on fire in downtown Oakland. The disturbance also forced BART officials to shut down the 12th Street Oakland City Center station.
…
University of California, Berkeley students reportedly gathered at Sproul Plaza to watch the presidential election unfold. Malini Ramaiyer, a Daily Cal reporter, said some screamed and booed as Trump snatched up electoral votes.
The Berkeley protest swelled to over 200 people, and spilled into Oakland city limits. People chanted, “Whose streets? Our streets,” Anderson Lanham, a UC Berkeley sophomore, said on Twitter.

“We need to get organized … as a nation. We cannot have a Trump presidency. This is frightening,” Berkeley resident Carol Coyote told the Daily Californian.

So much for “tolerance” and accepting the results of the election.
