Possible Human Remains Found Near Nashville Explosion
At 6:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, an explosion rocked the downtown area of Nashville, as we previously reported. Though a motive is yet unknown, there are a few tidbits of new information, one being that possible human remains were found at the explosion site. Police Chief Drake stated that they would have the remains examined.
When police arrived at the RV at the center of the explosion, they heard a repeating recording that warned people to stay away because the RV was going to explode in 15 minutes. As officers scrambled to evacuate people from the area, it did explode, injuring 3, including one police officer. The injuries were minor.
“They heard an RV giving out a message, basically saying that it was going to detonate within a certain timeframe. Officers immediately began knocking on doors evacuating residents here, not knowing that the bomb was going to detonate immediately, or if it’s going to go off to the time that it was stated…
Police Chief John Drake
Chief Drake also stated that there was no advance warning to the police, and no threat had been received. He praised the actions of the officers who rushed to evacuate the surrounding area. The evacuation was successful, and the three injuries were minor. The possible human remains may or may not be an innocent victim.

Even though possible human remains were found, police are unclear as to where the person, if it is a person, would have been. They could not determine if the RV was occupied at the time because of the explosion.
The explosion was so significant that at least one building collapsed and the integrity of others are in jeopardy because of their age, according to William Swann, director-chief of Metro Nashville Fire Department.
Nashville activated its Emergency Operations Center and restricted all downtown traffic from the explosion site. The blast caused damage along several blocks, as we previously reported.
The explosion caused widespread communications outages that took down police emergency systems and caused flights to be grounded.
Flights to Nashville have resumed after the FAA stopped them temporarily.
