Portland leftist triggered by ‘MAGA’ sign on train, prompts investigation by transit agency

Talk about keeping Portland “weird.” On Tuesday, the Oregonian reported that Gregory McKelvey, a founder of the Portland Resistance activist group, shared a picture of a piece of cardboard that read, “MAGA” in the front window of a MAX train cab, prompting an investigation by local transit authorities.

“[W]hy do you have max operators with MAGA signs in their window? Is this an endorsement of the over policing of poor people and PoC on your transportation?” McKelvey asked, apparently trigered by the mere presence of the term, “MAGA,” which stands for “Make America Great Again,” Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign slogan.

According to the Oregonian:

Roberta Altstadt, TriMet’s communications manager, said the investigation is ongoing. “While TriMet values freedom of speech, our Human Resources policy directs employees that they cannot be involved in political activity while on the job,” she said in an email.

If an employee did place the sign, Altstadt said any discipline would be handled by the employee’s managers.

KATU added:

Some people are critical of the sign, which references President Trump’s campaign slogan, saying that the political statement has no place on public transportation. Others say it is not inclusive to all riders.

“It’s a government train, so that makes it seem like the government is actually endorsing a political campaign or person, which is not right,” TriMet rider Forrest Cooper said.

Rider Darla Pierce says the sign is no different from a cab driver or Uber Driver putting a bumper sticker on their car. She says it doesn’t concern her.

“Everyone has that right to put it out there what their beleifs are. I don’t necessarily agree, but I wouldn’t be offended and it wouldn’t stop me from using the public transportation,” Darla Pierce said.

Of course…  Just ask Maxine Waters.

Don’t give them any ideas…

The Oregonian said that McKelvey did not take the photo in his tweet and the original photographer could not be reached.

It’s sad to think we now live in a country where leftists are triggered by the mere presence of the phrase “MAGA” because of its connection to the president.  Then again, we also live in a country where leftists scream at the sky
