Father kills youngest of six children…
Tahani Mansour seemed to have achieved the American Dream. The pretty 27-year-old daughter of Jordanian-Muslim immigrants was a member of the Phi Lambda Sigma sorority when enrolled at the Northeast Ohio Medical University, where she went on to eventually earn her Doctor of Pharmacology degree in 2013.
As reported by the Associated Press (via the Seattle Post-Intelligencer), Dr. Mansour went on to work as a clinical pharmacist at the University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center as well as teaching as a clinical instructor at the nearby University of Findlay and also her alma mater.
But all that came to a crashing end when her father, Jamal Mansour, 63, pumped two bullets into her brain.
The Washington Post covered some of the greater specifics of the needless and quite gory death;
Rocky River Prosecutor Michael O’Shea said Jamal Mansour “executed” his daughter, shooting her once in the front of her head and again in the back after she fell down.
“It’s almost like a professional hit man had done this,” O’Shea told The Post. “My opinion is that he got into that room with the purpose of killing his daughter. That wasn’t an accidental shooting. That’s an execution.”
O’Shea said the handgun that was used was a revolver, which required a much heavier trigger pull than many other pistol designs. It’s unclear whether the gun belonged to Jamal Mansour, or whether he had a permit to carry it.
Other family members were in the house at the time of the shooting, O’Shea said. One of Tahani Mansour’s brothers, who called 911, told police that his sister was unconscious and breathing, but was bloodied and twitching, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Tahani Mansour, O’Shea said, went through surgery and hung on for almost a day.
“The poor girl fought like crazy to live,” he said. “She was a fighter.”
Cleveland19.com (CBS) added some of the rather dramatic court happenings;
“The defendant essentially assassinated his own daughter, your honor, with gunshots to the head- not one, but two,” said Attorney Michael O’Shea, Rocky River [Ohio] prosecutor, during Jamal’s Sept. 29 court appearance.
“It was accident,” said Jamal during his initial arraignment.
O’Shea says there is no way what happened was an accident.
“Two shots fired with a revolver. It’s impossible to be an accident,” he said.
The defense attorney said that this is not an honor killing, despite previous speculation.
Possibly giving a reasoning why a father would murder his own child, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported;
An anonymous caller told police in December 2012 that Jamal Mansour was threatening to kill himself because Tahani Mansour was in Las Vegas on a business trip, according to a police report.
Jamal Mansour’s wife and members of his family told police at the scene that he was not a harm to himself, and he was only upset that his daughter was in Las Vegas, the report says.
Police noted in the report that he was “angry with his daughter, but calm and reasonable” when he spoke to them.
Curiously, Fox8.com reported that unnamed family members blamed the killing on the father’s alleged medical condition;
When asked to explain why the father would shoot his own daughter, family members blamed a medical condition; they said Mansour is a diabetic.
The Associated Press also noted that “The medical school posted a statement on its website mourning (Tahani’s) death, and included information about a prayer service held Thursday at a Cleveland mosque.”
