NoKo claims to have tested a weapon they say could create a radioactive Tsunami that would devastate the coastlines of the United States or any other “hostile” power. Specifically, North Korea stated it was created to destroy ports and naval strike groups. But is it real, or just another blustery response to the current tensions with the US and South Korea in the region?
“Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency said the new weapon, which can be deployed from the coast or towed by surface ships, is built to “stealthily infiltrate into operational waters and make a super-scale radioactive tsunami through an underwater explosion” to destroy enemy naval strike groups and ports…
The testing of the purported “nuclear underwater attack drone” was part of a three-day exercise that simulated nuclear attacks on unspecified South Korean targets, which also included cruise missile launches Wednesday.” Defense News
Tensions have escalated with NoKo over their tests of weaponry that could potentially be deadly, depending on the level of technology actually involved. Join military exercises between the US and South Korea have infuriated Kim Jong-Un, who has no qualms about raising those tensions over standard military exercises that have taken place for years. One joint exercise was recently completed, with another scheduled soon. But there is also a one-upmanship component: Russia’s deployment of the Poseidon ‘doomsday weapon.’
South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol vowed to make North Korea pay for their “reckless” actions.
“I tend to take North Korea seriously, but can’t rule out the possibility that this is an attempt at deception/psyop.” Carnegie Endowment nuclear weapons specialist Ankit Panda to the BBC.
Many experts say that this new drone is not as sophisticated as Russia’s Poseidon torpedo. The Poseidon torpedo is a hypersonic weapon that Russia claims cannot be stopped by any current technology. The US is developing hypersonic technology as well. The problem with any dictatorship’s claims, and especially Kim Jong-Un, is that a great deal of their rhetoric is sometimes bluster to make themselves look more powerful than they really are. Sometimes, however, it is the demented action of killers that do not care about anything but their own power.
