New survey shows Newsmax outpacing Fox News among ‘Trump voters’

Although Fox News commentators are still very much in Donald Trump’s corner, the network appears to be losing viewers to Newsmax and OANN, according to a new poll. (YouTube, Fox News)

Move over Fox News, it looks like there’s a new sheriff in town, at least for so-called “Trump voters.”

According to USA Today, “most people have missed the shift of Trump voters away from Fox News and into the hands of Newsmax and One America News Network, two news outlets that are only 8 years old.”

It didn’t take Newsmax long to start beating its own drum, declaring, “The new data indicates that Newsmax has risen as one of the most trusted news sources for Trump voters.”

An earlier USA Today/Suffolk University Poll revealed “Trump voters” weren’t shaken by the second impeachment of Donald Trump.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

According to Fox News, “Among Trump voters, 34% trusted Fox News the most, followed by 17% for Newsmax, 9% for One America News Network, with every other network at 3% or less.”

Meanwhile, Newsmax is reporting, “The Suffolk Poll appears to be consistent with a McLaughlin & Associates poll that reported that fully 20% of U.S. voters – or 30 million Americans – watch Newsmax regularly, compared to 40% who tune into Fox News.”

So, what’s going on here?

Fox News still has a trio of heavy hitters for the evening news/opinion programs. Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham still pull in big audiences. They will likely offer extensive coverage of Trump’s appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference this Sunday. According to Fox, Trump is expected to “to fall just short of announcing a 2024 presidential bid.”

The former president “will be the headline speaker at the event in Orlando, Fla., which kicks off Thursday,” Fox is reporting. The annual event traditionally occurs in the Washington, D.C. area but thanks to COVID-19 restrictions, the event has been moved to a friendlier Florida venue.

Trump’s faithful are expected to be there in force. Many still believe the election was stolen, and they question how Joe Biden could have defeated Trump when he rarely left his Delaware basement, compared to Trump, who was all over the map in the final weeks of the 2020 campaign, drawing crowds of thousands.

Another alarming concern is the continued presence of a fence around the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., which seems aimed at protecting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and fellow Democrats following the Jan. 6 riot.

Trump’s scheduled Sunday appearance will be his first public showing since leaving office, Fox News noted. He will likely get a noisy, boisterous welcome by conservatives who are making it clear they are not going away.
