The New York Times and Washington Post “had it wrong” when both newspapers essentially blew off revelations of information from Hunter Biden’s laptop that could have derailed Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie blasted them for it Sunday on national television.
Christie was the lone conservative on the “This Week” panel, aired by ABC Sunday, and he blistered both newspapers, noting the rival New York Post had the story right. As noted by Fox News, “In 2020, the New York Post was the first outlet to publish emails that allegedly came from Hunter Biden’s laptop in 2020, suggesting misconduct in his foreign business ties that implicated his father, now-President Biden.”
While the New York Post was willing to publish, Fox News recalled, “Other outlets first dismissed the laptop story as ‘fake.’ Yet last week, the New York Times and Washington Post were among the outlets who finally verified the report.”
What took so long?
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
As argued by Ruth Marcus, the Post’s deputy editorial page editor, “Is the Washington Post supposed to report on a hard drive that it did not have at the time? That was given to Rudy Giuliani. I mean it’s not an easy call if you’re an editor.”
Christie was having none of it. He fired back, recalling the WaPo “reported on a lot of stuff regarding Russian infiltration about the Trump campaign’ which ‘turned out to be dead wrong,’” Fox News noted.
Christie didn’t stop there. He ripped the media for essentially accepting the story that the Trump campaign had been infiltrated by the Russians, a story that was wrong.
But the establishment media can be comfortable reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop now, 18 months after the 2020 election put his father in the Oval Office. Critics could argue “mission accomplished.”
If that’s not enough to convince conservatives the media is in the tank for Democrats, Fox News is reporting separately that, “liberal media networks MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, and ABC have expressed concerns that the GOP will triumph over Democrats in the 2022 midterms, with many hosts asking how President Biden can save the party from an impending bloodbath.” If the media is impartial, why would it care which party is in power?
Now comes a new Rasmussen survey, released Monday, showing 65 percent of the nation’s likely voters believe the country is “headed down the wrong track.” Only 30 percent of voters think the country is on the right track. Last year at this time, 38 percent thought the U.S. was headed in the right direction while 56 percent thought the country was going the wrong way. That was when gasoline was averaging about $2.87 per gallon. Last month, a gallon of gas averaged $4.23, a whole $1.36 more. It translates to less money for groceries and other bills in a typical household.
If the theory is correct, that the U.S. economy revolves around the price of gasoline, Democrats are in big trouble heading into the spring and summer—when people may find themselves vacationing at home rather than traveling to popular vacation spots—and they will remember that heading into the fall campaign season.
