Fifty-four percent of likely U.S. voters think the country is “headed down the wrong track,” according to a new Rasmussen Reports survey released Monday.
Surprisingly, the Rasmussen daily presidential tracking poll still shows Joe Biden gets the nod on job performance by an equal number of survey respondents: 54 percent. Forty-three percent disapprove of Biden’s job performance.
Only 39 percent of Rasmussen poll respondents think the country is headed down the right track, which is still up from where the numbers were a year ago. Last year at this time, Rasmussen recalled, only 34 percent of likely voters thought the country was headed in the right direction.
The survey 2,500 likely voters was conducted by Rasmussen May 16-20, the veteran polling firm reported.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
This comes as CNN is reporting Biden’s presidency and leading Democrats are facing “a moment of truth with an audacious nation-changing agenda imperiled by the treacherous political math of divided Washington and stiff resistance by pro-Trump Republicans.”
But it’s not just Republicans ready to monkey-wrench his agenda. As CNN noted, “the reality of a 50-50 Senate means he cannot even guarantee all of his own party is on side with his biggest goals.”
While the report focused on immigration reform and climate change, but hiding in the tall grass are gun control schemes, which could return as an issue as the 2022 midterm election cycle starts gaining momentum.
“A bipartisan drive for a relatively modest tightening of background checks for some gun buyers is at risk of fizzling,” CNN said.
Writing at Fox News, contributor Liz Peek observes, “Don’t look now, but the Joe Biden progressive juggernaut is grinding to a halt…All it took was typical Democrat overreach – pack the court! DC statehood! Ditch the filibuster! $6 trillion in new spending! – and a healthy surge in inflation to sink Biden’s ambitions to become the next FDR. Poor Joe, he won’t get to transform the nation after all.”
The Biden administration could wind up leading Democrats to defeat in 2022, and it will be due to overreach, wild spending, the rising cost of living and a too-far-left tilt by the party that does not get the support it apparently anticipated, Peek suggests.
