Lt Gen Flynn Resigns as National Security Adviser Amid Russia Flap
It’s pretty early for the President to have cabinet shakeups, but late last night, his National Security Adviser, Lt Gen Michael Flynn, resigned. Flynn had been the subject of allegations that he mislead VP Pence and Administration officials over his relationship to Russia. Lt Gen Joseph Keith Kellogg, Jr.  will be acting as head of the position until a new person is chosen. Some news sources referred to the situation as an episode of “Survivor.”
The Justice Department had warned the Trump Administration about Flynn at least a month ago, saying that his relationship to the Russian envoy could be a potential problem. Trump’s infamous tweets on the subject had been conspicuously absent.
Blood in the water
Flynn had telephone contact with the Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. When he briefed the the Administration and Vice President on the matter, he assured them that there was no discussion of the sanctions against Russia and that it was merely a personal call.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The Vice President expressed that answer to the news media and in TV interviews.
Flynn later admitted that the subject of sanctions “might have come up.” That left the Vice President and Trump Administration with major egg on their faces, and they were not happy about it. It’s not smart to lie – ok they’re calling it “misleading” – and leave the smell of blood in the water for the news media to continue their shark attacks.
The fact that President Trump had not released a statement of support for Flynn in these last few days was telling, and revealed that something was awry.
According to Fox News, the media crowded into Sean Spicer’s office, seeking answers to the future of Michael Flynn. As of Monday night, that future was answered: he turned in his resignation.
“I have sincerely apologized to the president and the vice president, and they have accepted my apology.” Michael Flynn
This Administration not tolerant of lies
Interestingly, former Obama Administration official Susan Rice was never fired and didn’t resign even after she was caught on video lying about Benghazi. If fact, she got a promotion, and served as National Security Adviser from 2013-2017. The difference in tolerance for lies is marked.
