Sen Ed Markey (D-MA) is – and has always been- an extreme leftist. He once proposed AOC’s “Green New Deal” in the Senate, where it was soundly defeated. Now, he’s even more deluded with a call to disarm all police of their “weapons of war.” Why? Because they’ve supposedly attacked those “peaceful protesters” we’ve heard so much about in Portland, and elsewhere.
Are bean bags, pepper balls, and tear gas really “weapons of war?” He seems confused.

Not sure what “peaceful protesters” he’s talking about. We’ve seen riots, looting, arson and violence all across the nation. If he thinks that is “peaceful,” he needs serious mental help.

Breitbart wrote,
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) released a statement September 10 confirming that individuals have said “they intend to kill or injure officers” and have “scrawled [threats to commit acts of violence] on police facilities and other property.”
In one instance, a man was lit on fire as a result of people throwing Molotov cocktails at police. Police used CS gas, a common form of tear gas, as a crowd dispersion tool in response to the Molotov cocktails.
In several instances, according to police, arsonists have attempted to burn down the PPB’s North Precinct facility while people were inside. Most recently, on September 7, a crowd started a fire outside of the precinct building, chanting, “Burn it down,” prompting police to make 15 arrests.
Markey’s call to disarm police of “weapons of war” and tear gas did not include any solutions for how police should manage the ongoing rioting or protect themselves as they are being attacked.
Ed Markey, along with Bernie Sanders, has introduced a bill called the “No Tear Gas or Projectiles Act,” which would ban the use of tear gas, pepper balls, rubber bullets, used by Federal law enforcement, an make it difficult fro state and local police to use them. It’s a move that guarantees a much higher level or police response to riots. Unless he plans to disarm police entirely – which would be an unmitigated disaster.
S 4114 purpose is: “To prohibit Federal law enforcement officers from using riot control agents and kinetic impact projectiles, and to incentivize States and local governments to prohibit State and local law enforcement officers from using riot control agents and kinetic impact projectiles.”
It was introduced in June and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. It hasn’t come out of committee at this time.
“Banning the lawful use of CS will make it very difficult to address this kind of violence without resorting to much higher levels of physical force, with a correspondingly elevated risk of serious injury to members of the public and officers.” Portland Police Bureau
