Joe Biden: I Was Always Labeled One of the Most Liberal Members of Congress (Video)

There is no question that Joe Biden, who would probably sell his mother to become president, has forsaken nearly every position he ever held to mollify Democrats. In June of 2019, he jettisoned his lifelong support for the Hyde Amendment, which bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortion except to save the life of the woman or if the pregnancy arises from incest or rape. Since then he has done an about-face on the 1994 crime bill, which, as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he largely wrote and shepherded through the legislative process, favoring in its place legislation that would likely free violent criminals serving time.

Yet, Biden recently made a statement that is perplexing considering his long history as centrist. In an interview with ABC News, the former vice president claimed, “I was always labeled as one of the most liberal members of the United States Congress.” He went on to clarify that the term progressive has changed, adding that the term now embraces support for far-left ideas like Medicare for All, though “that wasn’t the standard what constituted in the past was progressive.” (You’ll have to forgive the mangled syntax. Biden has other cognitive problems besides his memory.)

Nevertheless, when in Biden’s fevered imagination was he considered “one of the most liberal members of Congress” and by whom? He certainly wasn’t billed that way by The Guardian in September 2019 in an article titled “The problem isn’t Joe Biden’s centrism. It’s that he’s the wrong kind of centrist.” Or by the Associated Press, which this past May intimated (via U.S. News & World Report) that “Biden Aims to Move Left Without Abandoning Centrist Roots.”
