Internet explodes as five-time deported illegal alien found not guilty in murder of Kate Steinle despite confession

Despite having confessed to shooting 32-year-old Kate Steinle, a jury found Jose Garcia Zarate not guilty of murder on Thursday. Zarate, a seven-time felon formerly known as Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez, is an illegal alien who has been deported five times. News of the verdict naturally caused the Internet to explode.

Steinle, Breitbart said, “was shot and killed on a pier in San Francisco in 2015 while walking with her father. Her final words were pleas to her father for help, as she died in his arms.”

According to the Daily Caller:

After five days of jury deliberation, Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, 54, was found not guilty on all counts, except for felony possession of a weapon. Zarate faced a charge of second-degree murder, but jurors were also instructed to consider first-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.

At trial, Zarate admitted to firing the shot that killed Steinle, but the defense contended that the gun “went off” in his hands after he found it underneath a bench on the San Francisco pier. A ballistics investigation into the shooting revealed that the bullet skipped off the pavement before hitting Steinle, lending some credence to Zarate’s claims that the shooting was an accident.

The prosecution countered with evidence that the firearm, which had been stolen from a federal agent, required a firm pull of the trigger to fire, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A forensics investigator also testified that Zarate had to have pointed the gun in Steinle’s direction for the bullet to follow the path it did.

Zarate, however, was found guilty on a charge of felony possession of a weapon and faces a maximum sentence of three years.

But ABC7 said, it’s expected that he will be taken into custody by immigration officials and eventually deported back to his native Mexico.

Reaction was pretty much what one might expect.

“San Francisco endorsed murder today, this is a step too far. This is what ‘The Resistance’ is about. True evil has been exposed today, the real goal of Democrats is now in our faces,” said Mike Cernovich.

Cernovich may have a point. According to one report:

After Thursday’s verdict, Sessions released a statement saying that San Francisco’s decision to “protect criminal aliens led to the preventable and heartbreaking death of Kate Steinle.”

[Lead attorney Matt] Gonzalez punched back, reminding Trump, Sessions and Vice President Mike Pence of the ongoing investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. The men, he said, “may soon avail themselves of the presumption of innocence and beyond-a-reasonable-doubt standard.”

“If Hillary Clinton were in office, we’d all be in danger. The #KateSteinle verdict is an endorsement of murder. There is no way to spin this, there is no defense, today the mask came off,” Cernovich added.

Meanwhile, sfgate.com said, “San Francisco remains committed to its sanctuary status, and Gov. Jerry Brown recently signed a bill to create a statewide sanctuary policy.”
