The inevitable news of Joe Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign has finally dropped, and the Democrats are putting on a very brace face on account of it.
A vast majority of them don’t want him to run again. His age and mental acuity are easy, vulnerable targets to Trump, (and everyone else), out there on the campaign trail already. Heck, even the new-age, self-help author can speak circles around the incumbent President.
As it turns out, even Joe Biden himself thinks that folks nearly two decades his junior are too old to serve.
In 1972, Biden, then 29 years old and a local Delaware councilman, was running against incumbent Republican Sen. Cale Boggs who was 63 years old, a former two term governor and the state’s senior senator.
“Cale doesn’t want to run, he’s lost that old twinkle in his eye he used to have,” Biden said of Boggs, who had originally wanted to retire but was persuaded to run for reelection.
There was no denying what Biden was insinuating, as the historical record tells us.

Biden used his opponent’s age against him in a way that was so explicit, one local reporter dubbed his approach, “Dear old dad.”
To be fair, President Biden’s inability to read the writing on the wall has been a rather prominent attribute throughout his first term in the White House. Perhaps his choice to run again in 2024 is just another symptom of this obliviousness.
