Hurricane Michael Strikes Florida Head On
Mexico Beach in the Panhandle of Florida was struck yesterday full force with Category 4 -155 mph -winds from Hurricane Michael. The devastation was immense. Panama Beach also felt the brunt of the hurricane, inundating their city airport and the aircraft parked on the tarmac. Highways were covered with debris, buildings and houses destroyed.
This will not be a “quick fix” situation. Insurance companies already hit hard with Hurricane Florence now must deal with even worse disasters from Hurricane Michael. Experts are saying it may take years to recover for those affected by the hurricane.
Fox reported that there were at least two deaths so far, a Florida man who died from a tree that crashed through his roof, and an 11 year old girl in Georgia, who died when a car port struck the family’s trailer. The Carolinas, still reeling from Florence, are also being struck with tropical storm rains.
Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City took a direct hit, and officials stated there was widespread damage. They advised residents not to come back, and to stay in their safe locations for now until they develop a plan for their safe return.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
There are more than 800,000 people without power in Florida alone, according to Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief charity.
Relief agencies and charities are being stretched to the limit once again this hurricane season, not just for funds, but for manpower.
President Trump declared a state of emergency in Florida ahead of Michael’s landfall in order to release the needed funds and FEMA involvement… which is always a mixed bag in the help department.
Here are just a few of the many videos on Twitter:
