Harvard Law prof Laurence Tribe on impeaching Trump: ‘If you’re going to shoot him, you have to shoot to kill’

While appearing on Monday’s edition of CNN’s New Day, Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe made a violent reference to shooting and killing President Trump during a segment discussing impeachment.

“But [impeachment] will be available only if we don’t use it loosely, and ring the bell every time something looks amiss,” he said while discussing his new book, To End a Presidency: The Power of Impeachment. “You can’t be the boy who cried wolf and have a viable impeachment power. You can’t use it over and over again against the same president.”

“If you’re going to shoot him, you have to shoot to kill,” Tribe added. “And that requires an overwhelming majority of a bipartisan kind. Otherwise, you’re just going to nick the guy, and make him feel empowered and vindicated.”

Here’s video as tweeted out by the Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Tribe later realized what he had done and offered an apology.

“In an otherwise good interview I made a terrible word choice, saying an impeachment ‘bullet’ can only be ‘shot once’ so one must ‘shoot to kill.’ I wasn’t speaking literally, but as one who works hard to reduce gun violence this was just inexcusable. I’m very sorry,” he said.

So he “literally” doesn’t want someone to murder the president.  That’s nice.

Naturally, his liberal supporters accepted his apology, with quite a few saying he had no reason to apologize.  After all, he was only talking about Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States.

Not everyone was willing to accept his apology, however.

Naturally, if any conservative used a metaphor like this when discussing Barack Obama, liberals would go through the roof and demand said conservative be fired, hung, shot, drawn and quartered with the remains fed to the dogs.
