Americans were shocked in early August, as armed FBI agents descended upon former President Donald Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago, allegedly at the behest of the National Archives.
According to the Bureau’s search warrant, the feds had laid siege to Mar-a-Lago in order to retrieve documents that the Archives alleged were “stolen” by Donald Trump as he was leaving office. Trump denied any wrongdoing, however, suggesting that the full gamut of paperwork had been declassified by him while he was still in office.
As the legal battle over the documents continues, some within the GOP are beginning to consider the possibility that the National Archives may be been provoked to make such a claim perhaps in a partisan manner.
Two leading Republicans wrote a letter Friday to the National Archives demanding communications and documents addressing the possibility Democrats pressured the institution into investigating former President Donald Trump.
House Oversight and Reform Committee Ranking Member James Comer (R-KY) and House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-OH) wrote the missive, obtained by Breitbart News, to Acting Archivist of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Debra Steidel Wall over the possibility that House Oversight Committee Democrats have pressured NARA into investigating Trump.
And they appeared to have some evidence already…

The two Republicans wrote, “The fact that NARA transmitted to DOJ a referral that launched a criminal investigation of the former president the same day the Democrat Chairwoman of the Committee inquired whether the agency had been in contact with DOJ raises serious concerns about whether NARA made the referral after pressure from Committee Democrats.”
There have been other instances of Democratic pressure on the Archives as well, with one well documented incident targeting Trump specifically near the end of 2022.
