Freezing in Your EV: Using the Heater Can Diminish Your Range

Out here in the West, distances are much greater, with significantly less places to charge an electric vehicle. And frankly, we could care less about them. It’s the populous blue states that get to deal with the rigmarole of the ridiculous demand for an electric car. But when Business Insider reporter Tim Levin had to drive from New York to Washington DC and back again, he learned a valuable lesson: using your heater in the EV can drop your vehicle’s range. By a lot.

A nine hour drive in a Toyota bZ4X required 3 separate charges. They were cold ones, too with Mr. Levin having to bundle up just to survive it. Yes, there were seat warmers, but the blowing of warm air into the front seat was absent entirely. That’s not counting the length of time needed to accomplish the charging. The batteries don’t always charge at the rate it says in the owner’s manual.

A combustion-engine car creates heat as a byproduct, so cranking up the radiator is no big deal. But electric cars use energy from their batteries to make heat, leaving drivers choosing between maximum range and maximum comfort

I hit the road back to New York on a chilly morning with 176 miles of range. When I went to turn on the heat, the indicated range plummeted to 125 miles. The options became: Stay toasty and charge twice, or endure the cold and stick with the planned one-stop strategy. Given the bZ4X’s lackluster range and my previous, lengthy experiences charging it, I went with the latter.

I bundled up and relied mostly on the seat and steering-wheel warmers (which are more efficient than the regular heater) to make things almost bearable. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t curse these silly electric cars under my breath once or twice.  Tim Levin, Business Insider

As bungling Biden continues to push electric vehicles on America in order to “save the planet” he is actually destroying us, thanks to the undue influence of the climate cult. Mr. Levin believes that electric vehicles are the wave of the future and we have to just suck it up and get used to the down sides. We sincerely hope he is wrong, and we pray that common sense will return one day.  At least before Jesus returns.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
