Flashback: Oprah Winfrey said ‘generations’ of old people ‘just have to die’ to end racism — Video
After her speech at the Golden Globes, many have been slobbering over the idea that Oprah Winfrey may make a run for the White House in 2020. According to the Washington Post, Democrats are giddy over the possibility that she may consider the run. So who, exactly, is this “cultural icon and friend” of former president Barack Obama? Consider this. During an interview with BBC back in 2013, Winfrey said that “generations” of older people “just have to die” to solve the problem of racism.
According to the Daily Caller:
In an interview with BBC, Winfrey was asked by Will Gompertz about racism and how it has changed over generations.
She responded by saying that it has “gotten better,” leading Gompertz to ask, “Are you saying problem solved?”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Winfrey responded, “I’m saying problem not solved. I’m saying that, you know, that’s the beauty of a film like ‘The Butler,’ and it’s the beauty of a film like ’12 Years a Slave,’ and it’s the beauty of what we’re seeing on stage with Scottsboro Boys is that it allows people to see where the root of the problem started. It allows people to see, ‘Oh, that’s where it all started, this is how far we’ve come, and now this is how much farther we need to go.’”
“Of course, the problem is not solved. You know, as long as people can be judged by the color of their skin, problem’s not solved. As long as there are people who still, there’s a whole generation – I say this, you know, I said this, you know, for apartheid South Africa, I said this for my own, you know, community in the south–there are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die,” she added.
Here’s video of her comments:
The Post said there’s no indication that Winfrey has actually done anything to formally prepare for a campaign but longtime partner Stedman Graham told a Los Angeles Times reporter that “it’s up to the people” adding that she “would absolutely do it.”
“She launched a rocket tonight. I want her to run for president,” actress Meryl Streep said. “I don’t think she had any intention [of declaring]. But now she doesn’t have a choice.”
Writing at the Gateway Pundit, Cristina Laila observed: “One could argue Oprah’s beliefs towards old white people align perfectly with the modern day America-hating, white-hating Democrat party.”
