Don Lemon Asks Guest If The Royal Family Should Pay Reparations — Immediately Regrets It (Video)

There are some things that a smart journalist would know not to ask a royal commentator. This is one of them.

But then, CNN’s Don Lemon is neither smart nor a journalist, so, there’s that.

Lemon, the Dumbest Man on Television, decided to use the occasion of the funeral of beloved monarch Queen Elizabeth II to raise the issue of reparations.

Besides being cold and uncouth, the concept of reparations for slavery nearly 200 years after abolition is neither feasible nor just.

As Lemon was making the case for reparations for colonialism during a time of global economic decline due to the worldwide bungled response to the pandemic, the CNN chyron was noting the “royal wealth” and that Prince William will take over his father’s $1 billion estate as King Charles III ascends to the throne.

Royal commentator Hilary Fordwich nodded as he spoke and didn’t miss a beat as she answered Lemon’s question in a spectacularly British way.

With a slight smirk, she replied to Lemon’s “eat the Royals” schpiel saying, “Well, I think you’re right about reparations, but in terms of if people want it, though, what you need to do is you always need to go back to the beginning of the supply chain. Where was the beginning of the supply chain? That was in Africa.”

“Across the entire world when slavery was taking place, which was the first nation that abolished slavery? The first nation in the world to abolish it — it was started by William Wilberforce — was the British,” stated Fordwich.

“In Great Britain, they abolished slavery,” said Fordwich.

“Two thousand Naval men died on the high seas trying to stop slavery. Why? Because the African kings were rounding up their own people, they had them in cages waiting on the beaches — no one was running into Africa to get them,” she said dismantling the entire narrative.

“And I think you’re totally right, if reparations need to be paid, we need to go right back to the beginning of that supply chain and say, ‘who was rounding up their own people and having them handcuffed in cages?’ Absolutely. That’s where they should start,” she said.

She then twists the knife, “And maybe, I don’t know, the descendants of those families where they died on the high seas trying to stop the slavery — that those families should receive something, too, at the same time.”

Well, Don Lemon certainly didn’t expect that, did he?

Can you just imagine if his three viewers looked into who the Barbary pirates were? They’d lose whatever was left of their minds.

In just over a minute, Hilary Fordwich dismantled the entire “white guilt” for slavery narrative and turned it on the African leaders who facilitated it.

She didn’t dismiss his ridiculous argument for reparations, instead, she used historical facts to show why it would make more sense to go after the African kings rather than the British Royals — the African kings were the ones kidnapping and selling their own people.

What a fantastic response.

This is a great tactic that more right-wingers need to emulate.
