Director Paul Schrader issues call to armed violence against Donald Trump

On Friday (ironically, Veterans Day), film director and writer Paul Schrader issued a call to armed violence against President-elect Donald Trump, Newsbusters reported Monday.

“I have spent the last five days meditating on Trump’s election,” he wrote on Facebook. “Upon consideration, I believe this is a call to violence. I felt the call to violence in the 60’s and I feel it now again. This attack on liberty and tolerance will not be solved by appeasement. Obama tried that for eight years.”

He then issued a call to financially support a violent insurrection against Trump and compared himself to John Brown, an abolitionist who believed armed insurrection was the only way to stop slavery.

He even expressed a willingness to fight his own children if necessary.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“We should finance those who support violence resistance,” he said.  “We should be willing to take arms. Like Old John Brown, I am willing to battle with my children. Alt right nut jobs swagger violence. It’s time to actualize that violence, Like by (sic) Civil War Michigan predecessors I choose to stand with the black, the brown and the oppressed.”

Newsbusters’ P.J. Gladnick added:

Hey, Paul, how about violence actualized against your bank account when some idiots out there, impressed that you used to matter in the film world, take up your advice and cause harm to people and damage to property? Yes, you could be subject to lawsuits if not incarceration for your misguided armchair call to violence. Karma would be if, after January 20, President Donald Trump appoints Sheriff Joe Arpaio as Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons who forces inmate Schrader to wear pink underwear (to be worn on the outside so they can check).

Gladnick observed that Schrader’s career “has been in the toilet for almost 30 years.”

“Schrader’s last major award was in 2005 with a Golden Raspberry Awards Razzie Award to honor his work as Worst Director for Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist,” Gladnick wrote.

Schrader isn’t the only leftist advocating insurrection, as we’ve reported repeatedly since Trump won.

Gladnick asked: “Will Paul Schrader escalate his threat of armchair violence from merely posting about it on Facebook to tweeting about it on Twitter?”

As a final note, Schrader should keep in mind that John Brown was captured and hung after a failed raid on a federal armory at Harper’s Ferry, Virginia.
