Did Reuters Use Subterfuge to Get Photos of Children at an NRA Event for Anti-gun Agenda?

Parents say they never gave consent for the photos to be used

Parents and grandparents of children who were photographed by Reuters at an NRA event say they never gave permission for the photographer to use them. Especially not in anti-gun circumstances.

Evelyn Hockstein was the Reuters photographer who went to an NRA event. She found a treasure-trove of fodder for political purposes, as she took pictures of children who were handling the firearms. Keep in mind that all of the firearms at the event were nonfunctional and no live ammo was allowed at the event. It was a safe place for the kids to handle the firearms under the supervision of parents. Of course, that’s not how Reuters nor the other outlets that snagged the photos portrayed it.

“What I noticed was [the photographer] was moving around so that whichever direction [his grandson] was, she tried to get in front of him,” Eckart told Fox News Digital in a phone interview…

The photo of Eckart’s grandson has since been used by outlets for articles highlighting how often children die by gunfire in the U.S. …

The photographer, Evelyn Hockstein, allegedly told the boy to “look at her” as he handled one of the firearms, Eckart said, citing what his grandson told him. The photo captured a shot of the young boy looking at the camera straight-on while appearing to point the gun at the lens.

All displayed firearms at the NRA meeting were deactivated, while live ammunition was not permitted at the event, according to an NRA firearm regulations guide reviewed by Fox News Digital. Fox News Digital

The first rule of using photographs is to ask permission of the parent. And it should always be in writing, by the way. Ms Hockstein seems to have done this in her excitement at finding something she could use to damage the NRA. Mr. Eckart, grandfather to the young boy, told Fox News he felt the whole thing was a “set up.”
Reuters stands with their photographer and claimed that everything was on the up and up.
The NRA says that they never had a press section on the floor, and that the photographs of attendees are supposed to be used by the NRA for promotional purposes, not by the media for political ones. There was a sign at the even indicating that photos would be taken, and some parents said that Hockstein was wearing a Reuters name tag. The photos went out to numerous outlets that are notoriously anti-gun.  Some outlets removed the photos after the parent’s complaint, others did not. Reuters removed the names and ages of the children “as a courtesy.”
Some “courtesy.” The parents and grandfather claim that people are now saying that they are grooming gun-toting murderers. Other parents who took their children to the event and were also photographed say that the Reuters photographer never asked permission and “just started taking pictures.” She apparently knows how to disarm opposition by “chit-chatting” with them. It’s only afterwards that suspicion and problems set in as the photographs began appearing on other outlets. It directly places children and their families in harm’s way.
Parents beware: the left-wing media will stop at nothing to destroy the Second Amendment and promote a dangerous political agenda. Children are fair game in the process. This is not likely to be an isolated incident, since the Reuters photographer’s fait accompli.
