Despite Ongoing FEC Complaint, Ilhan Omar Continues Funneling Money To Her Husband’s Firm

Rep. Ilhan Omar paid another $606,000 to her husband’s consulting firm in just the first three weeks of July according to new campaign filings.

Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show that the campaign committee provided significant cash flow to the E Street Group, a political consulting firm founded by Tim Mynett.

Omar announced that she and Mynett had married earlier this year, after spending months initially denying accusations from his former wife and the media that they were having an affair.

All told, Mynett’s firm has received over $1.7 million from his wife’s campaign since 2018.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“Apparently, being married to Ilhan Omar is lucrative business,” conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza writes.

Ongoing Complaint

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Mynett’s group has been paid exorbitant sums for “advertising, fundraising, travel and other services.”

The newspaper has reported that “the law doesn’t prohibit hiring a spouse for a federal campaign and it’s not unheard of for candidates and members of Congress to employ and pay relatives through their committees.”

That said, the Tribune noted in March that her “relationship with Mynett is at the center of a Federal Election Commission complaint alleging that money Omar’s campaign committee paid to Mynett and his firm for travel expenses were for personal use.”

The conservative National Legal and Policy Center filed the complaint last year seeking an FEC investigation, alleging Omar broke federal laws by using campaign funds to pursue her affair with Mynett.

Omar defended her actions claiming, “We consulted with a top FEC campaign attorney to ensure there were no possible legal issues with our relationship.”

“We were told this is not uncommon and that no, there weren’t,” she added.

Omar In Trouble ? ilhan omar husband

Omar has been a magnet for investigations and controversy since entering Congress in 2019.

Last year, the Tribune reported on documents raising questions as to whether she previously married her own brother as a means to “skirt immigration laws.”

In January, Fox News correspondent Trace Gallagher indicated investigations by the Department of Education and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) involved allegations of “perjury, immigration fraud, tax fraud, student loan fraud, and possibly bigamy.”

Omar is facing a primary challenge in August. Though she is expected to win, one challenger, Antone Melton-Meaux, raised eyebrows when he vastly outraised her for campaign cash in the last quarter.
