Cornyn Spokesperson on Biden’s OMB Pick: ‘Zero Chance’ Neera Tanden is Confirmed

A spokesperson for Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) stated Neera Tanden, President-elect Joe Biden’s reported pick to head the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), has “zero chance” of being confirmed for the post.

Drew Brandewie, Cornyn’s communications director, pointed out there are several negative remarks Tanden has made toward Republican lawmakers in the past, and noted she would need their votes for confirmation.

“Neera Tanden, who has an endless stream of disparaging comments about the Republican Senators’ whose votes she’ll need, stands zero chance of being confirmed,” Brandewie tweeted.

Tanden would need 51 votes in the Senate to be confirmed. Democrats currently hold 48 seats while two runoffs for Georgia Senate seats are being held in January.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The president of the liberal think tank, Center for American Progress, has been a top ally and attack dog for Hillary Clinton over the years.

Neera Tanden’s Incendiary Comments May Threaten Her Confirmation

Tanden has previously referred to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as having “broken our democracy” while stating she loves when he is referred to as “Moscow Mitch.”

She has suggested “facts are hard” for Trump supporters, whom she refers to as “Trumpers.”

Tanden blasted Republican lawmakers for passing tax cut legislation, saying it would only benefit the wealthy.

“Shame on them,” she said.

Tanden also, quite recently, went after Senate Republicans specifically for allowing the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett to proceed.

“This rushed and illegitimate process is an insult to the American people and fundamentally changes the nature of the Supreme Court from one of fairness and justice to an arm of the Republican political agenda,” she said in a statement.

Tanden, though, doesn’t just have an issue with Republicans. Progressives aren’t all that thrilled about her selection either.

Nomiki Konst, a former surrogate for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, called Tanden out as “a smear agent of the left.”

Tanden has been accused of physically assaulting Faiz Shakir, former Sanders campaign manager when he worked for ThinkProgress, a fact which doesn’t sit well with many supporters of the Vermont socialist.

One witness claimed she punched Shakir, though Tanden disputed that and said, “I didn’t slug him, I pushed him.”

Other accusations and statements of disdain for Ms. Tanden circulated on social media following reports that she would be chosen to head the OMB.

Biden’s Curious Selections Continue

Biden’s choice of Tanden, a polarizing figure for Republicans and progressives alike, is rather curious considering his pledge to unite all Americans.

“It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, and listen to each other again,” he tweeted.

“To make progress, we must stop treating our opponents as our enemy,” Biden continued. “We are not enemies. We are Americans.”

Odd then that he would choose someone accused of assaulting a Bernie Bro and who spends time attacking the very Republican lawmakers she’ll need for confirmation.

But then, Biden’s various selections for key posts in his cabinet or administration have been consistently odd.

His choice for National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, has suggested America should be involved in the “rise” of China.

Biden tapped John Kerry to be his special presidential envoy for climate.

Kerry, as Secretary of State, claimed peace in the Middle East would be impossible, something President Trump has proven false, and tried to console France after an attack by ISIS terrorists with a live performance by musician James Taylor.

Biden also recently named Richard Stengel to his transition team for Global Media, a man who once argued in an op-ed that the First Amendment needed redefining, that “hate speech” should be a crime, and that he was a big fan of government propaganda.

How can Biden possibly unite the entire country, left and right, when selections like Tanden can’t even unite his own party?
