Conservative Group Warns: Consent of the Governed at Stake in 2020 Election

On Monday, Rick Manning, President of Americans for Limited Government, responded to the premature declaration of a presidential outcome in the 2020 election by the media and other establishment organizations, which have included Fox News.

“Consent of the governed is a fundamental principle of America. When the people cannot trust the results of the election because of widespread voter fraud, our republic is threatened,” he warned.

“The single most important thing that can happen now is to have every single legal vote counted and every fraudulent vote thrown out. No matter who wins, all Americans lose if the legitimacy of this election is not confirmed,” Manning added.

We issued a poll shortly after the election, asking readers if they would view Democrat Joe Biden as a legitimate president if he was declared the winner of a race that has been marked with numerous irregularities.  At the time of this writing, nearly 93 percent of those who responded said they would not and less than five percent said they would:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

We also asked the same question on Twitter and received very similar results:

In an exclusive interview, Manning told the Conservative Firing Line that over 70 million Americans voted for President Trump and they deserve to know whether or not the result of that election is legitimate.

Moreover, he explained, roadblocks put up by Democrats and their allies “do nothing” to assuage concerns that a Biden victory might be illegitimate.  This lines up with a poll that says a vast majority of Republicans do not believe the election was neither fair nor free.

According to Politico:

Multiple new organizations announced Biden as the election winner on Saturday after four days of counting in several swing states. Following the news, 70 percent of Republicans now say they don’t believe the 2020 election was free and fair, a stark rise from the 35 percent of GOP voters who held similar beliefs before the election. Meanwhile, trust in the election system grew for Democrats, many who took to the streets to celebrate Biden’s victory on Saturday. Ninety percent of Democrats now say the election was free and fair, up from 52 percent before Nov. 3 who thought it would be.

Among Republicans who believed that the election wasn’t free and fair, 78 percent believed that mail-in voting led to widespread voter fraud and 72 percent believed that ballots were tampered with — both claims that have made a constant appearance on the president’s Twitter thread. Like President Donald Trump, a majority of the people that thought the election was unfair, 84 percent, said it benefited Biden.

The lack of trust in the election system has led to Republicans being more skeptical about the election results. Although only 18 percent of Republicans had said the results would be unreliable prior to Election Day, now 64 percent feel the same way following Biden’s victory. By contrast, 86 percent of Democrats say they trust the results.

We also asked Manning about media outlets like Fox News declaring Biden the “president-elect” before any of the election results have been certified.

“The same media that foisted the Russiagate conspiracy is now trying to force us to accept Biden,” he said, calling it a “dereliction of duty” on their part.

As we and others have reported, media outlets operated like Democrat Party propagandists throughout the election.  Now that the voting is complete, those same outlets, joined by Fox News, have jumped on the Biden bandwagon, even as the Trump campaign has taken action in several states challenging the count.

The bottom line: At this point, many Americans do not trust the electoral process nor do they believe that Biden is the legitimate winner of the election.  Sadly, the words and actions of many in the media and in government are simply reinforcing that opinion.

At least half the country doesn’t trust the results of the election because of widespread voter fraud. Our republic is threatened,” Catherine Mortensen, Vice President of Communications at Americans for Limited Government, said in a video recently posted to YouTube and embedded below.

“The single most important thing that can happen now is to have every single legal vote counted and every fraudulent vote thrown out. No matter who wins, all Americans lose if the legitimacy of this election is not confirmed,” she added.

We agree.
