Confirmed: Democrats Removing ‘So Help Me God’ From House Committee Oaths
Several months after claiming it was a mistake, multiple outlets have reported that Democrats have indeed removed the phrase “so help me God” from the oath administered to witnesses testifying before congressional committees.
The New York Times celebrated the omission, noting that Democrat victory in the 2018 midterms means “to the winner go the spoils” and as such, they “have deemed no such entreaty [a reference to God] is necessary.”
According to the Daily Wire, the changes to the oath have been slowly implemented over the last several months, in spite of the fact that lawmakers backpedaled when the idea was first broached.
Does God Belong in Congress?
Rep. Steve Cohen told the Times that God doesn’t belong in Congress, even when it comes to alluding to a higher power in an effort to encourage witnesses to be truthful.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
“I think God belongs in religious institutions: in temple, in church, in cathedral, in mosque — but not in Congress,” Cohen (D-KFC) said.
He accused Republicans of “using God” in wanting to keep the four-word phrase in the oath, “and God doesn’t want to be used.”

Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA), attending a hearing for the House Natural Resources Committee, said: “I am a sinner, I make mistakes every single day, but I do think that we could use a little more of God, not less.”
Dems Previously Claimed It Would Be a Mistake to Remove God
In January, when reports surfaced that the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives was attempting to remove the phrase “so help me God” from the oath, liberal lawmakers backtracked in the face of a public outcry.
Democratic Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva said “it was a mistake” to propose eliminating God from the House.
"So help you God?"
Should it stay or should it go in oaths?

Is it? Is it really a mistake? Or is it a theme at this point?
The Democratic National Convention in 2012 famously conducted a voice vote to restore a reference to God to their party platform, a notion that a large and loud group of delegates continually objected to.
Graves is right – we could use a little more God.
Especially a Democrat party that currently endorses a belief that babies should be aborted up to or even after birth.
Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) explains the importance of the oath:
“The intention behind [‘so help me God’] was to express the idea that the truth of what was being said was important not just in the moment, but would go into eternity, and someone was watching and would ultimately be our judge. Some would call that mere symbolism, but to many of our founders, it was deeper than that.”
To many Americans, even to this day, it runs deeper than that. If we no longer hold witnesses accountable to God, they will no doubt dismiss the idea that they should be held accountable to laws or decency to their fellow man or woman.
