Comey admits Trump election legitimate, won’t say if U.S. would have been better off with Clinton
While appearing on Thursday’s edition of CNN’s “The Lead,” disgraced former FBI Director James Comey told Jake Tapper that Donald Trump was legitimately elected to be president of the United States, but refused to say if the country would have been better off if Hillary Clinton, the most evil person ever nominated to the White House by a major party, had won.
“You call [Trump] morally unfit, you call his presidency a forest fire, you say he’s violating the rule of law. Do you think the nation would be better off if Hillary Clinton had won?” Tapper asked.
“That hypothetical is too hard for me to go back in time and answer,” Comey said.
“You paint a pretty dire picture of President Trump,” Tapper said in response. “It’s hard to imagine how you don’t think the nation would be better off if Hillary Clinton had won?”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
“I don’t think about it in those terms though Jake,” Comey said. “I think we have the current president who was — in my view was legitimately elected, is serving as president,” he added. “The question is, is he adhering to our values? He’s clearly not.”
The Hill added:
Clinton and some of her supporters have blamed Comey for her election defeat.
Comey publicly said months before the election that Clinton would not be prosecuted for her handling of classified information. However, he wrote a letter just days before Election Day stating the FBI had uncovered new emails related to the case.
Though Comey eventually said no new information was found in the emails, Clinton’s team blamed the letter for her sharp drop in the polls leading up to the election.
Comey has spent the last several days blasting Trump as “morally unfit,” “untethered to truth” and possibly compromised by Russians.
“I’m not criticizing President Trump because he’s a Republican or because he has a certain view on taxes or immigration or anything else. I’m criticizing him on the grounds of values,” he said.
But, the Daily Caller said, citing a tweet from the Daily Beast’s Max Tani, Comey later told The New Yorker’s David Remnick that he thinks the country would probably be better off if Clinton won the 2016 election. Moreover, he said voters bear responsibility for Clinton’s loss.
There it is: Comey says we’d probably be better off if Hillary Clinton was president, adds that the country bears responsibility for poor presidential choices.
