A leaders of a number of gay and lesbian advocacy groups have made the conscience decision to saddle-up with Barack Obama in his crusade against guns. Especially since the Islamic jihad attack on one of Orlando’s more popular gay night clubs.
Unfortunately for those same gay and lesbian advocacy leaders… someone forgot to tell the gays and lesbians. As reported by Breitbart.com and also by the Los Angeles Times, both on June 16, 2016, not only are gays and lesbians snapping up firearms at various Denver-area gun stores, but a particular symbol much hated by the Left is popping up where least expected.
According to George Horne, the owner of Denver’s The Gun Room, gun sales as of late “for this time of year…[is] three to four times what [they] normally have.” And according to Horne and other gun store owners and instructors in the Centennial State, the upswing certainly isn’t unprecedented.
While it’s normal that gun sales surge after a high-profile attack, Horne relates that what is unprecedented is the numbers of gay and lesbian customers purchasing guns just as fast as they can.
Colorado Springs firearms instructor Mike Smith “suggests the surge in gay and lesbian customers reminds us that gun owners are no longer the stereotypical group of old white men.” Smith went on to say, “I think right now because of what happened, people are looking for answers. You walk into a gun shop and you expect to see people, frankly, who look like me. I think we forget we’re a country of all people, not just people who fit that predetermined mold.”
In what may be causing some of the more liberally minded residents in the uber-progressive bastion of Los Angeles to burst a blood vessel, posters and stickers of the gay version of the Gadsden Flag are popping up all over West Hollywood. And it’s not just the modified Gadsden Flag with the Twitter text “#ShootBack” that has some bent out of shape.
Somewhat predictably, certain government officials are “disturbed” over the “bad message” the signage may be causing. Upon seeing a number of the posters along LA’s famed Santa Monica Boulevard, Capt. Holly Perez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood Station “alerted others in the sheriff’s department.”
“I understand the sentiment behind them and First Amendment rights, but it’s a bad message,” Perez said. “I hope it’s just people venting that they could do this, and I’m hoping their calmness will take over. It’s our job to keep you safe.”
Not alone, West Hollywood Mayor Lauren Meister was quite unnerved. “We are disturbed by them,” Meister said of the posters. “We don’t believe in an eye for an eye, and we advocate against gun violence.”
In the meantime, Breitbart’s Hawkins noted that the The Pink Pistols – a gun rights group specifically for gays and lesbians – saw their membership grow over 100 percent on June 13 alone. For their part, the Pink Pistols official website makes clear a certain massage that ISIS certainly doesn’t want to hear: “The Pink Pistols are the ones who have decided to no longer be safe targets. They have teeth. They will use them.”
