Clearing up the contrast facing ‘gun voters’ in November

Michael Bloomberg’s gun prohibition lobbying group, Everytown for Gun Safety, is pushing its supporters hard to elect “gun sense candidates.” (Screen snip, YouTube, Face the Nation)

The email message over the name Michael Bloomberg begins with a dire warning that, “We’ve entered the final sprint in our bid to break the gun lobby’s stranglehold on American politics. And, let me tell you, it’s going to be a close one.”

The message came from Everytown for Gun Safety, the Bloomberg-backed gun prohibition lobby group. The note quickly added, “Electing a Gun Sense President and Gun Sense Candidates up and down the ballot is within our reach, but we cannot let up the pressure between now and Election Day.”

Contrast that with a message from the National Shooting Sports Foundation that was picked up Monday by Ammoland News. According to the Op-Ed, NSSF “is focusing on former Vice President Joe Biden’s radical antigun campaign promise to ban, register and confiscate the most popular selling centerfire rifles – the modern sporting rifle – sold in America today.

“Biden borrowed a page from the failed campaign of Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke to craft an agenda that would hobble Constitutionally-protected rights for law-abiding Americans,” the NSSF said.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

President Donald Trump will reportedly be returning to the White House Monday evening, and that could translate to him being back on the campaign trail shortly. The president has spent the past three years balancing the federal courts with constitutional judges, and now he has nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court.

While Everytown’s “supporters are working tirelessly in every state to elect Gun Sense Candidates up and down the ballot. Everytown is spending millions to tell the truth about the NRA’s racist and extreme ‘guns everywhere’ agenda, and Everytown volunteers are registering thousands of new voters and organizing to get out the vote on a massive scale.”

What is a “gun sense candidate?” That would evidently be Biden and running mate Sen. Kamala Harris. According to NSSF, this is what they stand for:

The Biden-Harris gun control agenda proposes to ban the sale and manufacture of modern sporting rifles, or what the campaign terms “assault rifles” or “weapons of war.”

Biden proposes that all 18 million-plus modern sporting rifles in circulation would be registered in the same onerous manner as automatic firearms and regulated under the 1934 Gun Control Act. Owners of these firearms “would also be subjected to random and unannounced ATF inspection of their firearm and would be registered in a federal watchlist of firearm owners.”

The Biden-Harris gun control plan would also ban the manufacture and sale of so-called “high capacity” magazines.

What gun owners face is tantamount to turning the right to keep and bear arms into a government-regulated privilege.

The dilemma facing NSSF and other gun rights groups is getting traditionally lethargic gun owners to vote. They have convinced themselves their votes won’t count. They have conditioned themselves to avoid voting in order to keep their names off some list. They have conned themselves into believing “that could never happen here.”

With less than a month remaining until Election Day, conservatives and gun owners must make sure they are registered to vote at their current address, and then they must vote.

Failure, according to Second Amendment activists, is not an option.
