Censorship is Hate Speech

In the great scheme of things, censorship in itself is hate speech. When Facebook, Twitter, Google, Instagram, and others silence the voices of their opposition, they are committing the very crime they purport to be stopping.

“Nothing describes hate speech more than censorship. The freedom of one individual to express themselves according to their own perception is one of the most human characteristics we have. Denying and silencing someone’s freedom of speech is the most hateful crime anyone can ever commit.” Rick Ferran

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The colonists were being forced to quarter British troops in their homes. They were being subjected to unfair taxes without any representation at all. Their voices of protest were not heard by the British government, in fact it was dangerous to speak up.

Remember Benjamin Franklin’s famous cartoon “Join or die?”

Or his statement: “We must indeed all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately” at the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  He knew that dissension would start a war – the right to dissent, the right to speak your mind is inalienable- and cannot be taken from the possessor.  Yet we have allowed it.

Or George Washington, who stated, “In a free and republican government, you cannot restrain the voice of the multitude. Every man will speak as he thinks, or more properly without thinking.”

“More properly without thinking.” Why would he say that? Because when the voices around us are restrained, people become hunted, fearful, no longer free. These were men who absolutely understood the value of freedom.

In 1970 during the height of the Cold War, I was with a team of students in Budapest, Hungary. As we gathered in the lobby of the hotel to talk, hotel employees stood away from us, peering around the corners of the room to watch. They were afraid someone would catch them. When they spoke to us, they did so inside corners of stairwells or elevators. They did not have freedom of speech. Someone was always listening, always trying to trap them.

America, we have allowed Facebook, Twitter, Google, and others to take our freedoms. The rights we have as human beings to speak our minds has been destroyed by people who think they are better than we are. They literally have committed hate speech on a massive scale.

Their left-wing hate has fueled a censorship monster that threatens the very fabric of the United States. They have been allowed to lie in order to promote their own agendas, and destroy the rights of others.

Thomas Jefferson once said that our first object should be to protect the free expression of our foundation. We have long since lost his wisdom in favor of people who claim to be “good censors.”  They are not.
