After five grueling hours of negotiations, Turkey has agreed to a 120 hour cease fire in order to give Kurds time to leave a 20 mile buffer zone. Whether the Kurds will comply is another story, but the agreement stands in stark contrast to the freakout by both sides of the aisle over US troops withdrawal from Syria.
The agreement gives Kurds time to withdraw from the area, and if they do so, Turkey will stop their offensive entirely. Sanctions will then be dropped. Turkey also agreed to continue anti-ISIS operations.
“The deal is for a 120-hour cease-fire, during which time the Kurdish-led forces could pull back from the roughly 20-mile wide safe zone on the Turkish-Syrian border. All Turkish military operations under the recent offensive known as Operation Peace Spring will pause during that time, and the operation itself will come to an end entirely upon the completion of the Kurdish withdrawal, under the terms of the deal.” Fox

President Trump sent a letter to Tayyip Erdogan that told him not to be a “tough guy” and “don’t be a fool.” The BBC said that he crumpled up the letter and threw it in the garbage. But there he was, sitting at the negotiating table with Mike Pompeo and Mike Pence. “Tough love?”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
If Democrats had stayed in the meeting with Trump yesterday, they might have learned about his plans. Instead, they turned up their noses, called him names and refused to listen to anything he had to say. Pelosi accused him of being in the whole thing for Putin (“all roads lead to Putin”). But if the agreement works, Russia will have nowhere to fight, and the Kurds will be left alone, albeit further away from the Turkish border.
