Camden Drive-By Shooting at Home of Police Officers

Camden, NJ – A Camden drive-by shooting  at the home of two police officers was the subject of an intense manhunt on Tuesday. Shooters opened fire on the home where two officers and their 10 day old baby lived. Police Chief Joseph Wysocki described the crime as a “targeted attack.” Two of the 7 bullets fired entered the house, but fortunately, the couple and their newborn were upstairs at the time.

Police believe that two suspects fired at the residence. Initally a $20,000 reward was offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspects in the Camden drive-by shooting. That total has likely increased.

One of the officers has been on the department for 4 years, the other just 2 years. Neighbors said that they felt safe in the neighborhood because of their presence. The couple and their baby were not injured and remain on family leave. (Philadelphia CBS local)

On Tuesday night, Sept. 15, at 11:46 p.m. police responded to the 2900 block of Clinton Street. The residence of the officers was struck by six rounds while they and their infant were on the second floor.

Detectives located seven spent shell casings in front of the home with two rounds traveling through the front door into the interior of the residence. The officers have been with the department for four years and two years, respectively, and remain on leave.

“This attack on our officers wan an affront to the department and will not be tolerated,” Wysocki said. “I want thank our law enforcement partners for the assistance they’ve provided us in the early stages of this investigation. We are asking for the public’s help with this case and for them to provide any information that they may have in regard to this shooting.”

Based on the ongoing investigation detectives identified a 1998 dark colored Honda Odyssey with a temporary paper tag in the area during the incident. Early this morning, the vehicle was located and towed for further investigation.

“I want to share a very clear message to the scumbag thugs behind this senseless act. We’re coming to get you and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli

Scumbag thugs is an excellent description.
