At the beginning of the year, a huge fallout over changing the name of the Blue Dog Democrat Coalition to the “Common Sense Coalition” left a handful of male only members. The coalition voted not to adopt the new name, but as soon as the vote was taken, many of them left. Now, 8 months later, a new threat to the coalition has emerged: House members who want to change the direction of the coalition to an Anti-fascist (Antifa) focus in order to rebuild it.
The coalition at one time had 54 members. By the beginning of this year, its membership declined to just 15. After a rift in January, it fell to seven. The new chairpersons who joined them after the rift: Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez – who co-chairs the Blue Dog Democrat Coalition with Reps. Jared Golden, D-Maine, and Rep. Mary Peltola, D-Alaska now have plans to totally change the group. Note the name of the hosting group for their event in July…just sayin’.
“So Jared, Mary, and I actually just took over the Blue Dogs,” Gluesenkamp Perez said during the July 31 event, which was hosted by the Downtown Nasty Women Social Group, a group of so-called progressive activists in New York City, and Markers for Democracy. “They basically lost some of their membership before we came in, and we are sort of rebuilding it into – Mary, Jared, and I – are rebuilding it into this sort of antifascist rural [group].” Fox digital
Blue Dog Democrat Coalition and the far left
Blue Dog Democrats have traditionally been the more moderate members of the party. They previously stood for fiscal responsibility, and a more middle-of-the-road stance on political issues. The new members aim to change that focus to make it more “progressive” so they can get more recruits and be more ‘diverse’. There are just 10 House Democrats left, none of whom are viewed by anyone as “moderate.” The hopeful news is that the GOP views the three chairpersons as “vulnerable” Democrats for the next election cycle.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Desiring to make a once centrist coalition of Democrats with at least a partial brain into a pile of left-leaning Antifa folks is a serious problem. One issue is attempting to make “Antifa” a mainstream word, which belies the terrorists/anarchists behind the groups. Calling them “anti-fascist” is a joke, since their own actions prove themselves to be fascist in nature. Attempting to push this coalition into “rural” America is a good way to get in trouble. As a new song by Jason Aldean states: “Try that in a small town.”
