(Natural News) Constitutional attorney Dr. Edwin Vieira, Jr. fears that the Disinformation Government Board created by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will move in the direction of the Orwellian Ministry of Truth, which seeks to rewrite history and change the facts to fit the doctrine of the ruling party for propaganda effect.
“In history, if you let this thing happen, it will move in the direction of the Ministry of Truth. No matter how benign and naïve the mindset is of the people who are setting it up now. It will move in that direction because that’s the natural inclination of individuals in that type of situation. They have that kind of power, they want to expand it and expand and expand, especially with respect to the concept of ideas,” Vieira told Liberty and Finance host Elijah K. Johnson in a recent interview.
Johnson said the formation of the Disinformation Governance Board has raised concerns from people, especially conservatives who have talked about it and compared it to the Ministry of Truth from 1984, George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel. “And it’s very interesting. The secretary of Homeland Security says the board will not monitor American citizens and will not infringe on free speech, and the purpose of the board is actually to protect free speech. But it seems like whenever there is another board created by the government, it does the exact opposite. It reduces our freedom,” Johnson said.

Vieira pointed out that the disinformation board is going to suppress certain kinds of speech in order to protect free speech. He added that the problem with the people in the Joe Biden administration is they don’t know what they’re talking about or don’t care whether what they says is logical, rational or comports with legal principles.
The constitutional lawyer said the U.S. Constitution does not refer to freedom of speech or the First Amendment as a generality. He added that there are areas in which things could be called misinformation or disinformation which are subject to civil, criminal and administrative penalty.
Vieira also questioned how the disinformation board is going to judge what levels, types or areas of disinformation they are supposed to get into and how it is going to ferret out the existence of disinformation. He also cited the board’s questionable activity under the First Amendment, as well as the possible violation of the Fourth Amendment in order to obtain information so-called disinformation.
Disinformation board to suppress freedom of speech
The veteran lawyer said the disinformation board could also go to an internet provider, Twitter, Facebook or whatever social media platform and demand the private companies to suppress the speech, cut off the account or maybe impose a fine on someone who is suspected to be involved in disinformation.
He also said the disinformation board could be used to generate political disinformation in favor of one particular political party and its set of candidates and to make it more difficult for people to talk about important issues, such as electoral fraud.
The Disinformation Governance Board, according to Vieira, can be a tool for the Democratic Party and the Biden Administration who are trying to shut down individuals and groups that question or oppose the official narrative.
Vieira noted that when the First Amendment is attacked or subjected to attack by a disinformation board, the whole First Amendment – not just the freedom of speech – would be affected. “If speech, association, petition and religion can be controlled by a coercive government, the whole concept democracy fails,” he said.
