Another lawmaker delegation led by Sen Ed Markey (D-MA)- landed in Taiwan Sunday just days after Speaker Pelosi’s August 2nd visit. The unannounced visit ratcheted up China’s anger and brought out more “military exercises” around the island. The delegation also consisted of Democratic Reps. John Garamendi, Alan Lowenthal, Don Beyer, and Republican Rep. Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen of American Samoa. They were set to meet with President Tsai Ing-Wen on Monday (Washington Examiner).

Congressional delegations have been visiting Taiwan more frequently lately. Another lawmaker delegation is nothing new. April- May- August- August – just this year so far. Some have been bipartisan, Pelosi’s not so much. It was Pelosi’s visit that rankled China to the point of conducting massive military exercise in areas around Taiwan that were previously unheard of. But when another lawmaker delegation made an unannounced trip over the weekend, China renewed their exercises.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The US plans to send more warships through the Taiwan Strait, according to Kurt Campbell, Deputy Assistant to Biden. The Biden administration also plans to announce a “roadmap” to more trade between the US and Taiwan in coming weeks. How mad do you think China will be over that?
