Zakaryia Abdin – Twice Tried to Join ISIS

In York, South Carolina, a 20 year old male, was a potential danger to Americans from the age of 16. Zakaryia Abdin tried to join ISIS (twice), and was arrested in March 2017 as he tried to board a plane for Jordan. Today, in a South Carolina Federal Court, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Zakaryia Abdin

Abdin was arrested by York Police in 2015 at the age of 16, after authorities learned of his plot to kill military and civilians in North Carolina. He had acquired weapons, and the charge stemmed from those weapons. He also had an ISIS flag in his bedroom. At the time, he stated he would kill anyone who tried to interfere with his ISIS plot.

In 2016, he claimed he had changed and no longer wanted to join ISIS. Zakaryia Abdin is of Syrian extraction. He was released from Juvenile Detention in Columbia, when he could have been kept there until he was 21. York law enforcement asked that he be kept in custody, because he was still a danger. They were right, the Juvenile Parole Board was wrong.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Stripes reported,

After his release from juvenile detention in 2016, Abdin again plotted to join ISIS and kill Americans, federal prosecutors and FBI agents said. Agents had monitored his activities and intercepted communications where Abdin told an undercover FBI operative that he wanted to be a martyr and that victims would “pay the price with their blood.”

In 2017, Abdin was arrested at a TSA Checkpoint as he attempted to board a plane to Jordan so he that could join ISIS.

KOMO reported,

Abdin also acquired guns in the months prior to his arrest and regularly practiced shooting at a Charleston area shooting range, according to the FBI.

Federal agents arrested Abdin at a TSA checkpoint as he attempted to board a commercial flight from Charleston connecting to the Middle East.

Abdin’s actions came in spite of warnings from the FBI about the consequences during an in-person meeting months prior to his arrest, prosecutors say.

So today, June 10, 2019, Abdin was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The judge also added the when he gets out he will be subject to lifetime supervision.
