The Spirit of Obama Claims Another Victim — Yoga for the Marine Corps

Old Corps, New Corps… now the Obama Corps.

Political correctness be damned. Arguably the greatest Marine who ever lived, the quotable Lt. Gen. Lewis Burwell “Chesty” Puller once famously opined,

“Our Country won’t go on forever if we stay soft as we are now. There won’t be any America because some foreign soldiery will invade us and take our women and breed a hardier race.”

For those living near Saluda, Virginia, no, that wasn’t an earthquake you just felt. It was Chesty spinning in his grave faster than… well, a very pissed off Chesty Puller.

Much like the Claude Rains portrayal of Captain Renault of Casablanca fame exclaiming “I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!” the Marine Corps heavies in DC have come down hard with a full blown case of crippling Islamaphobia-phobia (fear of being labeled an Islamophobe).

In the wake of the suicide of recruit Raheel Siddiqui at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in Parris Island, SC,  CBS News recently reported that the Marine Corps has officially concluded there is “a widespread culture of hazing and abuse.”

Never mind that Siddiqui wasn’t even assigned to a training platoon yet. He was fresh aboard Parris Island, in what the Marines refer to as “Forming” – a handful of relatively stress-free days in which newly arrived recruits are issued uniforms, receive medical and dental exams, and complete a seemingly never ending barrage of paperwork. But no practical or formal training. All administrative.

Or in the (censored) parlance of enlisted Marines, Siddiqui was so new to Parris Island, he was still defecating hometown chow.

Obviously not caring about the inner child of his enemy.

While there have been very rare instances of recruits dying during Boot Camp (usually by way of a medically missed defective heart valve, etc), the alleged “leadership” in Washington, DC, has never come down quite so hard and made such sweeping changes both at the Recruit Depots (Parris Island and San Diego) and the Fleet Marine Force overall.

Despite the very government sounding name but actually privately owned, the Marine Corps Times is reporting that the higher-ups are ordering more Company Grade officers, specifically, captains, as well as a small number of enlisted former Drill Instructors not to train future Leathernecks, but to “supervise” the DIs;

“We have added additional company grade officers down to the recruit depots to provide additional supervision,” Lt. Gen. Mark Brilakis, the deputy commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, said in an interview. “We’ve sent some drill instructors who have served on the drill field successfully previously for a second tour, volunteers, to go down to the drill field.”

In spite of more than a few Marine Corps generals complaining of not enough personnel to ensure mission accomplishment, the additional officers and senior enlisted sent to the MCRDs are essentially command-approved headhunters whose function in life is to place hard working Drill Instructors up on charges, even a hyper-technical violation of the letter and/or “spirit” of the Marine Corps SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) for recruit training.

Putting the MCRDs off to the side, the Marine Corps is now officially wasting assigning career-minded enlisted men to the secondary MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) of Force Fitness Instructors.

Ostensibly understood that Marine Staff NCOs and NCOs at the company level are no longer capable of conducting physical training (PT) for the same Marines they lead, the Force Fitness Instructors are tasked, as described by Military.com, to change the Corps’ “fitness culture.”

As reported, the newly minted instructors have the mandate from on high to “advise unit commanding officers and troops on complete fitness” to include “advising” the same unit commanders on such Rachael Ray-ish topics such as proper nutrition.

It’s further reported that;

The first job for the new instructors, however, may be changing the mindset for Marines around fitness.

When Marine recruits enter boot camp, physical exercise, or ‘incentive training,’ is used as punishment and correction to harden them and prepare them for the rigors of service, Staff Sgt. Beau Hancock, an instructor at the Quantico fitness instructor class told Military.com in an interview. The problem, he said, comes when Marines retain that negative mentality of exercise as punishment after they enter the fleet.

At one with the latest pop psycho-babble instead of what’s worked for generations of Marines, Hancock added, “If I negatively reinforce someone over and over again, it’s going to break someone down.”

And may God forbid that a US Marine may face a negativity reinforced breakdown brought on by the stress of knowing that a certain degree of personal physical fitness is required and maintained.

But if the induced mental anguish is taking it’s toll on any given bubble wrapped dandelion of a Marine, Gunnery Sgt. Dimyas Perdue, has what may be the perfect stress reliever for body and mind, yoga;

“Yoga is a bad thing to the studs,” Perdue said, “but that’s something we can do to ensure our body is ready.”
