White Manager Fired Because Blacks Refused to Work for a Honkey

White-boy-pic-0012Christopher Lyons is suing the city of Washington, D.C., for racial discrimination.  Lyons is white.  He worked for the Department of Public Works (DPW) where he was the only white supervisor.

The black employees didn’t look kindly to working for a white man.  This was not a behind-your-back campaign.  They told him to his face that they resented working for a white boss.  During meetings, he was referred to as white boy (Later changed to white man), honkey and cracker.  Lyons suffered a double whammy because he reported fraud and waste within the department.

The DPW, which collects garbage and enforces parking regulations, hired Lyons to be the fleet manager.  It was his job to make sure cars and trucks were repaired in a timely manner.

He blew the whistle when he found out that the repair times before he was hired were faked to make it look like the work was being done in a timely manner.  He also reported wasted money in the department.

Nine months into his employment, he was fired without being given a reason.  He had reported the harassment to his boss, Bill Howland.
