Weiner and Abedin…A Scandal Fit For Two

Forget weeniegate and Abedin’s alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.  The two share a scandal that has yet to break, their wedding.  Abedin’s wedding dress was made by Oscar de Larente, Hillary’s favorite designer and is estimated at $50,000.  Their wedding and reception were held at Oheka Castle on Long Island in 2010, the most expensive wedding venue on Long Island, where the average wedding costs $100,000.  Weiner and Abedin did not have an average wedding.  The estimated cost, including everything is $250,000.

And that cost does not include flowers, cake, band, or hotel rooms among other things.  Both were required to file financial disclosure forms.  They apparently did not have the financial resources to spring for such a lavish affair and they listed no gifts on their 2010 disclosure forms that were obtained by National Legal and Policy Center. You can accept gifts from personal friends, but if it’s over $250 dollars, you must ask for a waiver.  There was no such request made.

Where did the money come from?  No one knows and no one is talking.  Abedin seems to be in the clear but as a member of congress, Weiner could face charges of violating the False Statements Accountability Act, a federal criminal statute.  Weiner is also facing charges for spending $45,000 dollars for a private detective to chase down the person who “hacked” Weiner’s account.  He spent the money, knowing full well, there was no hacker.
