anti-gun control video sparks order for psychological exam

On Friday, Breitbart.com reported that Frank Harvey, a senior at Manville High School in New Jersey, had police called on him and was ordered to undergo a psychological exam over an anti-gun control video he made for an assignment for a teacher at the school.

According to News12, he was assigned the project in 2015 as a junior for a college preparedness course, and left the video on a thumb drive in the school’s computer lab.  Someone later found it and turned it in, prompting a call to authorities.

News12 added:

“It was assigned by the teacher, and I got the topic, which was anti-gun control, approved by the teacher,” he says.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The video cited examples where people have fended off home invaders using guns and argues people should be able to protect themselves. It uses political cartoons to suggest gun free zones won’t work.

Harvey says he left his thumb drive that contained the project in the school’s computer lab Monday. Someone apparently found it and alerted officials. Manville police questioned Harvey, but cleared him of any wrongdoing.

But Harvey says the Manville School District suspended him for the content on the thumb drive and said that he had to undergo a five-hour psychological exam before he could come back to school.

The text of the video reads in part:

We can establish that because criminals do not follow laws they therefore would be able to obtain a gun even if laws were established to prevent law-abiding citizens from obtaining guns. Preventing law-abiding citizens from obtaining guns only makes [the criminal’s] “job” easier, as the law-abiding citizens are now unable to protect themselves from criminals who obtain guns illegally anyway.

Makes perfect sense to us.

Here’s the video that prompted the psychological exam:

As you can see, there’s nothing here that would warrant calls to police, but we no longer live in a sane world.

The teacher now says she doesn’t remember the project, and Harvey’s mother has said she’s not taking him to be examined.  Moreover, she’s taking him out of the public school system and he’s working toward a GED.

“I’m not taking him for a psychological evaluation because this teacher is lying and won’t own up to what she did,” she said.
