Voter approval for Harris remains low; less than half think she’s qualified

Fewer than half of likely U.S. voters think Vice President Kamala Harris is qualified to assume the presidency in the event Joe Biden can’t finish his term, and 49 percent of those same voters “believe it is at least somewhat likely Biden will leave office and be replaced by Harris before the 2024 election,” according to a new Rasmussen survey.

The poll results were released Tuesday. According to Rasmussen, only 40 percent of voters think the vice president is qualified to assume the presidency, and only 23 percent of those voters view her as “very qualified.” However, 55 percent do not believe Harris is qualified to take the helm, including 46 percent who say she ids “not at all qualified,” Rasmussen revealed.

Harris has been getting some very bad press lately, from some unlikely corners. The Washington Post ran a story Dec. 4 detailing complaints from Harris staffers about her “dysfunctional and frustrated office.” The WaPo article noted an “end-of-year exodus that includes communications chief Ashley Etienne and two other staffers who help shape the vice president’s public image.”

Rasmussen’s report noted, “While 75% of Democrats have a favorable impression of Harris, only 14% of Republicans and 25% of voters not affiliated with either major party view the vice president favorably. Seventy-nine percent (79%) of Republicans and 57% of unaffiliated voters have a Very Unfavorable impression of Harris, as do 17% of Democrats.”

The Rasmussen survey also revealed, “Although 74% of Democrats believe Harris is qualified to assume the duties of the presidency, 76% of Republicans and 49% of unaffiliated voters think she is Not At All Qualified for the job.”

Simultaneous to all of this is the revelation by Newsweek that someone has erected a billboard in southern Wisconsin portraying Biden and Harris as “Dumb and Dumber,” referring to a movie title about a couple of moronic losers. While that may be amusing, one revelation in the Rasmussen survey is not: “Even among Democrats, 41% think it is at least somewhat likely Biden will leave office and be replaced by Harris before the 2024 election, an opinion shared by 60% of Republicans and 45% of unaffiliated voters.”

Meanwhile, Fox News is reporting that veteran pollster Nate Silver has ridiculed “Washington Post column claiming President Biden was being treated just as badly, or worse, by the media than former President Trump.” Media bias against Donald Trump and his staff was occasionally in the realm of hostile, according to media critics.
