If Biden’s rush out of Afghanistan had gone smoothly, it would have made for a victorious photo-op on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. But it did not.
Instead, his bungling became a shameful chapter in US history that led to the needless death of 13 Americans, and many others killed and wounded besides.
General Frank McKenzie retired from the Marines a little more than a year ago and has regrets about how Americans left Kabul.
In an interview Sunday, he said he feels the withdrawal – which drew widespread criticism and which he had previously defended – will be looked at as a terrible mistake from plan to execution. ‘I believe history is going to view the decision to come out of Afghanistan in the way that we did and the manner that we were directed to come out as a fatal flaw,’ he said.
McKenzie said in March 2022 that he would regret the withdrawal for the rest of his life – a decision that allowed the Taliban to quickly seize control of Afghanistan as Americans and refugees fled for safety. ‘I have a lot of regrets about how it ended in Afghanistan. I have a regret with the basic decision, which I think was the wrong decision,’ he told Fox News . ‘And I particularly regret that we did not choose to begin to evacuate our people, our embassy personnel, our American citizens and our at-risk Afghans at the time we made the decision to bring in our combat forces. I think that was a serious mistake, and I think that led to the events of August 2021 directly.’ — DailyMail
Since then, there has been one insult after another against the families of those victims, including the vigorous stonewalling of any attempts to hold the Biden admin accountable, the infamous looking at his watch during the dignified transfer ceremony, and the fact that not one of those names has been mentioned.

Biden is being hit with backlash by veterans and Republicans who say the president’s visit to Alaska is disrespectful to the military and its heroes.
Mark Geist, a Marine Corps veteran, said most people know where they were on Sept. 11, 2001, recalling that he was sitting on the couch watching the morning news when the terrorist attacks occurred.
“For the next nine years, I was overseas and can remember exactly where I was. The day would start with a prayer for all of those we lost on that day and every day since,” Geist said. “I expect the same reverence and compassion from the politicians of this country, especially our ‘leader.’ And when I see the lack of, my heart hurts for I see what we are losing.”
Victor Marx, another Marine Corps veteran, said he thought Biden’s decision to forgo a trip to New York City is a “missed opportunity and sends the wrong message.
“By not visiting the sites, President Biden will miss an opportunity to demonstrate his dedication to upholding the values and principles that define our nation, and it may leave some questioning his understanding of the significance of this solemn day in American history,” Marx said. — WashingtonExaminer
This stands in stark contrast to how Trump is marking the anniversary of that sad day.
