Update- Los Alamitos Votes: “We are not a Sanctuary City!”

One small step for cities, one giant leap against California’s liberal machine: Los Alamitos city council voted 4-1 on Monday night to exempt themselves from the California Sanctuary law. But they didn’t just stop there: they also voted to direct the City Attorney to file an amicus brief to the recent Federal lawsuit. (Amicus brief: “friend of the court.”) We previously  reported the possibility of this action.

The city council chambers was at standing room only with an overflow crowd, according to the Orange County Register.  The lone councilman who voted against the exemption did so because he was fearful of litigation.

But the Amicus brief should negate that worry, since it would place them on the side of the Attorney General’s lawsuit. Basically, the State will have to fight the Federal government with cities such as Los Alamitos saying they agree with the lawsuit.

The OC register reported,

Throughout the night, many in the crowd of more than 150 people from Los Alamitos, Long Beach and other communities engaged in heated debate – sometimes in front of the dais, other times with each other.

Those opposing the ordinance believe it’s ‘xenophobic,’ which is the standard cry of people who can’t balance their liberal mindset to see the actual purpose of the ordinance is to prevent the city of Los Alamitos from violating the Constitution. Not that liberals care about the Constitution – they think it’s racist anyway.

There are, however, other places in California that  do not agree with the California statute, and some adopted “resolutions” against it. A resolution is not the same as the actual ordinance enacted in Los Alamitos. Parts of Northern California in a place they call the “State of Jefferson” have repeatedly attempted to break away from California’s liberals. They’ve attempted secession on numerous occasions, but that has resulted in no court relief so far.

If they really want out of the Sanctuary State law, they need to create actual laws.

“On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, thanks to an ongoing effort by many Jeffersonians’, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors, by a 3-0-2 vote, adopted a Resolution declaring that the County would comply with federal immigration laws and is NOT a Sanctuary County.

In 2017, the Counties of Tehama, Siskiyou and Kern also adopted resolutions, as did the cities of Anderson and Lincoln.  Efforts have been underway in many of the other state’s northern counties including Placer, Calaveras, El Dorado and Tuolumne.” The Jefferson Messenger

California could one day become the hotspot of the nation far more than ever before, as the tension between Patriots and Conservatives vs Liberals devolves to more than a list of news pieces.
